Cedar Home Cleaning, Sealing and Maintenance

Cedar homes are special, and require certain kinds of care, in order to clean, restore, and protect them. See Dirt Run!™ specializes in wood restoration, and we have worked on a variety of common and exotic woods alike ranging from pressure treated pine, to cedar and redwood, to ipe and more, as well as offering full service restoration and cob blasting on log homes.

Not all woods can or should be cleaned using the same methods, but there are right and wrong ways out there. Cedar homes should be cleaned using a two step method prior to sealing the wood with a semitransparent oil based finish.

Using a two step method to clean brings the pH of the wood back into balance prior to sealing. This is critical, since balancing the pH allows for both better adhesion and performance of the finish being applied to the wood. Wood moisture content should also be checked prior to applying the finish as well.

What's the wrong way to do it? Well, high pressure alone is not the way to properly clean and restore a beautiful cedar home. Lower pressure combined with the proper cleaning solutions yields the best results for the wood.

Can anything take the solid stain off of my cedar home? YES! Most pressure washing companies clean decks, but head for the high hills when it comes to stripping solid stain off of them. The same holds true for cedar homes.

There are very specific products and methods used to remove old failing finishes, but high pressure alone is not the way to do it. We use low pressure with our stripping agent, then we balance the pH of the wood.

Your home and the surrounding areas will be meticulously cared for during the restoration process. See Dirt Run!™ uses job appropriate equipment and materials, taking great care to mask up all doors and windows when sealing, and to cover all plants and grass in the area being worked on.We'll make sure to care for your property as if it were our own! We're certified by the PWNA in Wood Restoration & Preservation, and were nominated in early 2003 to instruct the Wood Care Boot Camp in March 2003, in Las Vegas. This nomination was only extended to a select few companies nationwide, and we're proud to be among them.
